Move the Butte
February 19, 20 & 21, 2026
The Crested Butte Dance Collective and its flagship community dance production, Move the Butte, were founded in 2010 with the mission “to deepen the connection to ourselves, each other, and the world around us through dance!” Move the Butte is a community-based initiative that offers dance collaboration, instruction, education, and performance opportunities for adults. It promotes inclusivity, creativity, self-expression, and personal growth while strengthening community bonds.
Registration for Move the Butte 2026 is CLOSED.
Why Tickets Are Limited & Why We Ask for Your Understanding
We know how deeply our community loves this production. Every year, we hear from many people who want to attend, and it truly means everything to us that this show is so cherished. At the same time, we want to be transparent about why tickets are extremely limited and why, despite our best efforts, we simply cannot accommodate everyone who would like to attend.
This is a community talent production, and our dancers have each invested hundreds of hours rehearsing, creating, and showing up for this work. It is incredibly important to us that each dancer has the opportunity to invite their loved ones to see them perform. To support this, each dancer and staff member is given access to two tickets per performance for family and friends.
Theater capacity:
Approximately 355 seats per performance
Number of performances:
4 shows
Participants involved:
Approximately 150 dancers
150 dancers × 2 tickets each = 300 tickets reserved for dancers’ families and loved ones
Seats remaining after dancer tickets:
355 total seats − 300 dancer tickets = 55 seats
From those remaining seats, we must also accommodate:
10 staff tickets (essential production staff working each performance)
50 sponsor tickets (supporters whose financial contributions make this production and our nonprofit programming possible)
While the numbers above reflect our maximum allocations, the reality is that not all dancers choose to purchase their full ticket allotment for every show, and sponsors do not always use all of their tickets each night.
Because of this, a limited number of tickets typically become available for public sale for each performance. While availability varies by night, there will be opportunities for community members to attend. We are committed to offering these tickets in a fair and transparent way.
Public ticket sales will begin on Friday, February 6th.
Please check back on this website in early February for full details on how public tickets will be released and how to participate in the sale.
We truly appreciate your patience and enthusiasm, and we look forward to welcoming as many community members as possible into the theater.
We understand the common questions and suggestions, and we want to address them directly:
Why not move to a larger venue?
We have explored options with larger seating capacity in Gunnison. However, we have consistently heard that many Crested Butte community members would not attend if the show were moved out of town. Staying local allows us to best serve the majority of our audience and participants. Why not add more than four shows?
All of the dancers, choreographers, and staff are community members with full-time jobs, families, and other commitments. Producing four shows is already a significant physical and logistical undertaking. Adding additional performances would not be sustainable and would risk burnout for the very people who make this production possible. At this time, four shows is our absolute maximum capacity.
We sincerely wish we could offer more tickets. Unfortunately, we do not have any additional options beyond what is outlined above.
Please do not email or message us directly requesting tickets.
We do not have extra tickets available, and we do not have the staff capacity to respond to individual ticket requests. If tickets become available, they will be released on our ticketing website and made available to everyone equally.
If you are hoping to find last-minute tickets, we recommend keeping an eye on community channels such as Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, or word of mouth, where individuals may resell tickets they can no longer use. But be careful of ticket scammers and only buy tickets from someone that you know in our community.
The best way to ensure access to tickets is to become a sponsor. Sponsorship directly supports our nonprofit programming and includes ticket benefits based on sponsorship tier.

Join us for the Move the Butte Movie showing in April!
Even if you aren’t able to get tickets, you can still see the show! We create a video of the show every year and show this video in April at the Majestic theater in CB and at the Gunnison Arts Center. We will announce those movie showing dates soon. This is a donation only movie showing and a lot of the dancers attend to watch it so it’s a great time and a great way to sit with your friends and watch them dance!
In Closing:
We know this can be disappointing, and please trust that this is hard for us too. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm, support, and love this community brings to the show. Thank you for understanding, for supporting our dancers, and for helping us continue to create meaningful, community-driven art.
