About Us

Crested Butte School of Dance is a registered 501c3 nonprofit arts education organization providing access to dance instruction and performance. We create a nurturing and playful environment for our youngest exploring artists and rigorous instruction and programs for serious students both on the ground, with traditional dance training, and in the air with aerial fabric training. Our students take their dance education with them as they move into maturing roles in life.

Our Mission

The mission of the Crested Butte School of Dance is to deepen the connection to ourselves, each other, and the world around us through dance.

Our Vision

The vision of the Crested Butte School of Dance (CBSOD) is to inspire the values of integrity, noble leadership, compassion, creativity, perseverance, lifelong learning, collaboration and respect through the art of dance.

CBSOD was founded in 1983 and has been a community engagement powerhouse for 40 years.

School of Dance occupies our long-time home above the Crested Butte Fire Department in the Pump Room, and Jones Performance Hall and Schaul Children’s Music Hall at the Center for the Arts.

Crested Butte School of Dance was founded in 1983 by Heidi Duvall and Bobbie Reinhardt and will celebrate 40 years of serving the community in 2023! CBSOD is well known for developing dancers of all ages in a nurturing, progressive, and now standard-based curriculum.

Executive Director Shelly Clements is a professional dancer, choreographer, master dance instructor, licensed educator with an M.Ed., certified in massage therapy, yoga, and meditation, and a practitioner of conscious leadership.
